Childrens Ministry

Sunday School— 9:30-10:00
and Children’s
Choir—10:00—10:30
From 9:30 to 10 a.m. join us on the 3rd
floor for a relaxed time as the group slowly
trickles in; Linda and Erin always have art projects to complete,
the computers are set up and ready to go, Bobby and Rebecca
are usually taking on all challengers on MaDance Revolution
and Eddie serves up one great breakfast taco!
At 10 a.m. we will gather to work on music for special worship services
like World Communion Sunday and the “Come As You Are Christmas
Pageant.”
Godly Play — Worship 10:50-12
noon

Children begin worship in sanctuary
and move to an experiential worship experience.
During the fall we will continue with our extended
church program which has been very successful with our
children. As
a matter of fact, it has been so successful that we are
going to move the older children into their own room! With
more than 30 kids coming to extended church every Sunday,
our little children's room feels awfully crowded sometimes. So,
in the fall we will have the younger children (4th gradeish
and younger) meeting in the children's room for a new year
and a new schedule of Godly Play, complete with new projects
and some new things at our stations. And the older
children (5th gradeish and up) will meet in the
youth room, reading, discussing and journaling
the same scripture that younger children will discuss.
If you are new to Madison Square and/or to the Godly Play curriculum, what follows
is a bit of a description of what takes place each Sunday.
Godly Play is an excellent tool for worship with children (and fidgety adults….) Through
the Godly play method we will retell one of our sacred stories, we will wonder
about that story and then we will have some time to interpret that story in our
own way through a variety of art supplies, journaling, books, or quiet time with
the story. Godly play is an awesome tool for educators; children who grow
up with this method are really given reign to explore their own feelings and
their own beliefs about many of the stories and symbols of our faith. What
an amazing gift to give our kids – the ability to know their own hearts!

A Word About Ages

Often parents ask us at what age we want children to go
to which program. Our
standard response is that you know that better than us! But, what you should
know is that age is not as important a criteria to us as spiritual readiness.
We want the kids to be ready to fully immerse themselves
in whichever program they attend. We want for the
programming that we provide to be "church" for
whomever attends.
And to that end, we recognize that
some 3 year olds want to sit in circle and hear a story
and some of them just want to play.
Some 10 year olds want to have deeper discussions about
faith, some want to hear a story and some want to stay
in church.
Some 15 year olds want to stay in church and some want to help a 6 year old journey
further along her faith path.
Some 39 year olds want to come out of church and hear a story and do some wondering! Whatever
works as church for you and your children and your family is what we want you
to do.
We will welcome you with open arms wherever you choose to go!
Infants and Toddlers

The Infant & Toddler

Madison Square Presbyterian Church is committed to helping you teach your
children to know and love God. That commitment begins with our Nursery. The Nursery
is dedicated to nurturing children 3 years old and younger.
We offer a nursery staffed with loving, experienced paid care givers.
The nursery can be found by entering the front door to our education building
and taking the half-flight of stairs down.
Our toddlers begin learning the stories of the bible with the curriculum Toddlers & Twos.
A Sunday School resource for ages
12 – 36 months that cleverly couches Bible lessons within a large and diverse
assortment of play activities.
