Mark Marty Update

Mark Marty, our beloved organist, had heart surgery on Friday the 19th and is doing very well. He expects to be discharged from the hospital soon and continue his recovery from home! Thank you all for your prayers and support. You are still welcome to call and text and send cards, but please don’t visit in person until he is ready.

Fiesta 2024 Parking

Please be aware that the bleachers for the Fiesta parades are already in place and will affect parking for this Sunday and the next. They impede about 1/3 of our parking availability. We have arranged with the Baptist Hospital to use Parking Lot #3 (The entrance is at the Baltimore and Quincy and a pedestrian gate is closer to Lexington/Madison Square). Parking is free for us that morning without any need to have a ticket or designation that you are attending church. If you are physically able to make the walk of about 400 feet, please do so on the 28th to allow those with limited mobility to park closer to the church. More information, including pictures and video.

Have Special Concerns or Need Prayer?

If you have special concerns and you would like our deacons to pray with you, you may talk with one of our prayer deacons at the front of the sanctuary near the communion table any Sunday at the conclusion of the service. If you are unable to talk to us in person you may call the Madison Square Presbyterian Church prayer line at (210) 226-6254 and leave a message. One of the pastors or deacons will call you back.

Small Groups at Madison Square

Denotes new information

Presbyqueerians: Contact Rolando Ocañas for more information. The Presbyterian Pride group will meet monthly online to discuss LGBTQ+ issues of faith and identity, engage in community outreach, and plan for MSQPC’s annual participation in the Pride Parade and related events.

Noon Zoom: During Lent our midday devotional group is sharing reflections from Presbyterian Outlook Magazine, Local Pilgrim. These meaningful reflections are short enough to share aloud, followed by conversation and prayer. The group meets Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at 12 noon.

Second Sunday Hikers: Contact Gina Acree for more information. Each month, a group of hikers gathers to spend time in God’s creation. Hikes are typically not strenuous but a chance to talk and enjoy one of the many San Antonio area trails.

Scripture with the Pastor: Contact Megan Kromer or Carol Frere. On Thursdays at noon, one of the pastors will lead a Bible Study on Zoom about the scripture to be covered that Sunday. All are welcome!

MSqPC Book Club: Contact Carol Frere. We will discuss Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. We will meet at noon on May 3. All are welcome to bring your lunch and join us. For location, see Carol Frere.

Hunger Fighters: Contact Gina Acree. The Hunger Fighters are a small group that meets at least once a month to support food insecurity initiatives. We work frequently with the Food Bank and recently began assisting House of Neighborly Services with meal deliveries. We’d love to have your help!

Cuba Interest Group: Contact Edwin Blanton. We have a sister church in Placetas, Cuba, and because we want our Madison Square folk to feel a true connection (Hermanamiento) to these Cuban Presbyterians, and they to us, a group of us meet monthly via Zoom. We exchange information about the Placetas church, communications we’ve had with them, events in Cuba, and the Cuba Partners Network. We have read and discussed related books and, when able, have sent items such as medical supplies. We hope to make annual visits in limited numbers. We are always open to new people joining!

Our sister church in Placetas, Cuba is very active on Facebook. Ask to follow Iglesia Presbiteriana-Reformada en Placetas

Sanctuary Choir: Contact Director Paul Hughes. The choir is a phenomenal group that practices on Wednesday nights and Sunday morning and leads worship with passion and power.

Gutsy Girls’ Gathering: Contact Beth Weiss. A group of women who have been Gathering for 20+ years. We visit and keep up with how everyone in the group is doing, with politics a frequent topic for discussions. The group meets one Tuesday morning each month (schedule varies). We gather at 10:30 a.m. at Kapej, 415 Camden St. The group is intended for adults interested in having a special opportunity to talk and bond in an environment of art and good food. New members are welcome.

LIFT (Living in Faith Together): Contact Pastor Gin. This Small Group is an intentionally intergenerational group that meets monthly around food, fellowship, Bible Study, prayer, and fun!
